This month, the 4Squares Residential Team is heading into Boston for an afternoon on Beacon Hill, the heart of the city where America’s story began. With its cobblestone streets and historic brownstones, Beacon Hill feels like stepping back in time, offering a glimpse of the city’s rich past while embracing its vibrant present. Today, it’s a neighborhood where you can enjoy the finer things in life—whether it’s a quiet moment with a book, a leisurely stroll among centuries-old architecture, or indulging in some of the best food and drink Boston offers. It’s the perfect place to experience the ideal blend of history, culture, and sophistication.
71 Charles Street, Boston, MA
Beacon Hill Books and Cafe opened its doors in 2023 to great fanfare and has quickly become a must-see destination for anyone visiting Boston. Spanning four floors, the bookstore offers an impressive selection of books across all genres, from timeless classics to contemporary bestsellers. The beautifully designed interior features elegant wood paneling, cozy reading nooks, and charming details that make browsing a delight. On the lower level, the cafe serves traditional afternoon tea, complete with delicate sandwiches, scones, and pastries. Given this spot's popularity, restaurant reservations are highly recommended—read: mandatory—to secure your spot in this vibrant literary and culinary haven.
Charles and Pinckney Streets, Beacon Hill
Louisburg Square is one of Boston’s most elegant and historic locations, nestled at the intersection of Charles Street and Pinckney Street in Beacon Hill. Surrounded by beautiful Federal-style townhouses, the square has long been home to some of Boston’s most prominent residents, including political figures, writers, and socialites. The architecture is a striking example of early 19th-century design, with grand facades, intricate ironwork, and beautifully manicured gardens that make the square feel like a step back in time. The surrounding homes, many with distinctive doorways and colorful shutters, create a picture-perfect setting, making it a wonderful place for an early spring stroll. As flowers begin to bloom and the weather warms, Louisburg Square offers a peaceful escape in the heart of Beacon Hill, providing a quiet respite amidst the city’s hustle and bustle.

The Public Garden, between Charles and Arlington Streets, Boston
April marks the opening of The Swan Boats, a cherished Boston tradition since 1877, offering a quintessential experience of the city’s charm. Situated in the heart of the Public Garden, designed by the legendary Frederick Law Olmsted—who also shaped Central Park and much of Boston’s park system—these pedal-powered boats glide gracefully across the lagoon, adorned with elegant swan-shaped figures. Their serene, picturesque ride invites visitors to relax and take in the beauty of Olmsted’s visionary design, blending history and nature in a timeless way.
The boats were originally designed by Robert Paget and his family, who sought to offer a unique and tranquil experience on the lagoon in the Public Garden. Since then, the Paget family has remained deeply involved, ensuring that the iconic swan-shaped boats continue to glide through the serene waters, delighting generations of visitors. A ride on the Swan Boats isn’t just about enjoying the view; it’s a nostalgic, iconic activity that captures the essence of Boston’s rich history and tranquility amidst the bustle of the city.

272 Boylston Street, Boston
